Doernbecher's

So, I have been a total slacker since Ethan was born, but I figure I have an excuse as I am a new mother! Life has been absolutely NUTS since Ethan was born, and now my life is dictated by a 4-week old. Who knew something so tiny could be so incredibly demanding and lovable at the same time? (And it's a good thing he's lovable because I am not exaggerating about the demanding part) This kid I'm pretty sure can out-eat any other baby - seriously, he eats 24/7.

2 weeks ago we had to take him to Doernbecher's children's hospital (shown below) for surgery which was traumatic and we're so glad it's over! He had pyloric stenosis which means everything he ate came right back up in the form of a TON of projectile vomit! Luckily we have such an amazing hospital so close by (in Portland) - he was well taken care of with lots of doctors and residents by his side.

On a light note, as we were taking Ethan back up to his room after surgery, the doctors asked me if I had seen Winnie the Pooh yet. I was startled and a little upset, thinking he was referring to some life-sized Winnie the Pooh visiting the Ped's floor. If you know me well, you know I HATE Pooh - and a life-sized version would scare the crap out of me. Haha...anyway, he was just referring to one of Ethan's bandaids so it turned out to be no big deal. Below is a pic of him before we took his bandaids off - as you can see, his face doesn't react to milk very well. Billy and I joke that this is what he'll look like when he's going through puberty - this kid is freaking awesome!

Ethan Andrew Boaz

May 2, 2009 is the second best day of our lives! We were blessed with the MOST BEAUTIFUL baby in the entire world! Ethan Andrew Boaz was born at 10:52pm, was 19 inches, and weighed in at 7 pounds 11 ounces. Being parents is definitely tiring, but so well worth it. Included are some photos from his first photoshoot!

Day at the Beach!

Yesterday was so beautiful here in Oregon! The sun was shining (finally) and a bunch of us girls decided to take a trip to the beach, which is only about 50 miles away. It was SO BEAUTIFUL! It was about 70 degrees and there was almost no wind, which is huge for the Oregon coast. It makes me really excited to have our baby so I can see how he loves the ocean and the sand!

Here's a pic of us girls: Stephanie (due LAST SATURDAY!), Mary-Anne, my bad self, and Melody.

Stephanie, Mary-Anne and I set out to find sea-shells, but there were a bunch of retirees with sophisticated equipment that took all the good ones! All I could find was half a sand-dollar, but I am still really excited about it!

Shower Time!

No, I'm not excited that I just took a shower, although that is one of the most exciting parts of my day. My neighbor Lauren threw me a baby shower this last month and it was such a great time! I had family and friends come, AND they brought gifts. Also, Lauren and her husband Nels made the BEST food in the whole world. If I had money and they were chefs, I would hire them to make me food every day; however, it is Wal-Mart and Winco from here forward.

Lauren actually made a diaper cake!

Of course I had to add photos of the food! It included so many different things, but what I liked the best was the endless chocolate covered strawberries. I'm pretty sure Stephanie (the other pregnant lady) and I ate them the WHOLE TIME! They were amazingly delicious.

We played the guessing game where people cut a piece of string that they think is the same size as my belly. Most people over-estimated, which I did NOT appreciate!

Mary actually got it right on the nose! She was absolutely perfect; therefore, we were able to stay friends.

All of these girls are former friends because they measured too big.

Christy is on the BLACK list because I'm pretty sure she measured double the size of my belly! I'm really trying to work on that whole forgiveness thing!

Here are some of the other girls at the shower. Don't know what I would do without the friends I have here in Salem!

Thanks so much Lauren for throwing me the perfect shower. It was such a blast - also, since you are my neighbor I am going to issue a premature apology for when/if Ethan keeps you up at night. My bad!

The Big 2-4!

So I turned 24 this past month (I know, I'm a little late), and my birthday was an absolute blast!

First, Billy surprised me with breakfast in bed - French Toast, which is one of my favorites. He also bought me flowers and was just super sweet to me the whole day.

Billy has been snoring a LOT lately, so we decided to get him some allergy medicine. Well, the kind he wants isn't sold without a prescription in Oregon because I guess you can make Meth with it! We drove to Vancouver and hung out at the Wal-Mart for a while. Sounds kind of lame, but the drive was beautiful, and we ended up having a lot of fun in Wal-Mart.

Then, he took me to the Olive Garden and treated me to a nice dinner. We love to order pasta to share, and this time was even better because we used a gift card his mom sent us! It's so much better when it's free food!
After dinner, we drove back down to Salem where I thought we'd just play games for the rest of the night. As I walked in the door, I saw tiny little legs on my kitchen floor and got super freaked out. As soon as I turned on the light, our friends yelled surprised and just about gave me a heart attack! I really do have the best friends in the world. They got together a gift basket of the cutest things, and made me the most amazing cake EVER - probably even better than my wedding cake.

I'll never forget my 24th birthday, and I'm really thankful for all my friends and husband for making it such a special day for me.

Huge Prego Pics!

So I have gotten requests for prego pics! As I realize this is the only time in a woman's life where it is acceptable, dare I say CELEBRATED, to gain weight and grow a huge belly, I figure I should take advantage of this glorious occasion. Pardon the ghetto pics, I take them on Billy's Mac b/c it has a camera built into the screen and it requires minimal work. I'm gonna go ahead and blame the laziness on the pregnancy just because I can. Yeah that's right, I'm going to milk it for all it's worth.

Blender Travesty

I decided to add the latest Kera-ism to the blog, since this one is so typical of our life!

So, since we have been pregnant, I have been on a perma-health kick to make sure Ethan is getting everything he needs. Lately I have been making fruit smoothies that taste just as good as Jamba Juice, but are purely real fruit, so they're much healthier!

Well, I got really excited the other day, because I discovered I could put vegetables in it as well, and it STILL tasted good! Well, similar to the walking and chewing gum reflex, I can't be excited and think at the same time. I took the lid off of the blender to smash the tomatoes into the blades and...you guessed it, PURPLE smoothie went everywhere! All over the kitchen, my face, the cupboards, and even the ceiling! Haha....and I know this will just get worse when we have the baby..
